Accessibility statement

This website should be usable by as many people as possible — whatever device, technology or situation they come with.

The site was rebuilt from scratch in August 2026. Accessibility was part of the work from the start rather than something bolted on afterwards: the site is plain semantic HTML, it works without JavaScript, and it loads nothing from third-party servers.

What has been done

The following was built and verified deliberately:

  • The entire site can be operated with the keyboard alone — navigation, language picker, season filter, privacy settings.
  • Focus is clearly visible at all times: a 3-pixel ring offset from the element, in a colour that stands out at 3:1 or better on both light and dark backgrounds.
  • A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content, bypassing the navigation.
  • Every colour combination was calculated: body text reaches at least 4.5:1, controls and meaningful icons at least 3:1. Two brand colours were darkened slightly to achieve this.
  • No information depends on colour alone. Summer and winter are additionally distinguished by a sun and a snowflake — and spelled out for screen readers.
  • Text scales to 200 % without loss of content and without horizontal scrolling. All measurements are relative to the chosen font size.
  • Anyone who has asked their system for less motion gets a calm page: no reveals, no slideshow, no parallax.
  • The slideshow in the header can be paused.
  • Every page has an unambiguous heading structure, a descriptive page title and correct language markup — including the entries in the language picker.
  • Images that carry meaning have a text alternative; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as filenames.
  • Interactive targets outside running text are at least 24 × 24 pixels, buttons and menu items considerably larger.
  • The site works fully without JavaScript. Anything that would not work without a script is not displayed in the first place.

We do not yet fully meet the requirements in these places:

Maps as images

The overview maps of the destinations come from the previous site and contain text inside the image. The same information sits directly below them as a filterable list in real text, with country names and season. The maps themselves will be replaced at the next revision.

Low-resolution club crests

The crests of the reference clubs are historical logo files and look blurry when magnified heavily. As the club names sit next to them as text, no information is lost.

Signature as an image

Erich Hohl’s signature is a graphic and cannot be rendered as text. It carries a text alternative.

How this was assessed

This statement is based on a self-assessment by bennows, who build and maintain this website.

Assessed were: operation by keyboard alone, all colour combinations calculated using the WCAG contrast formula, rendering at 200 % zoom and at screen widths from 320 pixels, the heading and landmark structure of the published pages, and behaviour with reduced motion and with JavaScript disabled.

What did not take place: testing by people with disabilities, and external certification. Both would make this statement more meaningful.

Legal context

This statement is published voluntarily. The Austrian Web Accessibility Act (WZG) binds public bodies; this website does not belong to one.

In our assessment the Austrian Accessibility Act (BaFG), which implements EU Directive 2019/882, does not cover this site either: it is purely informational, involves no electronic commerce, and EH Kickoff e.U. is a micro-enterprise. We follow the standard regardless — not because we must, but because a site you cannot operate misses its purpose.
